About

Amy Bartlett-Goodness is a Maine based artist known for her bright, expressive abstract paintings that draw from her curiosity of the relationship between color, surface and energy. Amy holds a BFA from the Maine College of Art and a MAEd. from Lesley University. Amy’s training as a sculptor and love of painting led her to explore assemblage, encaustic and mixed media as a means of visual communication. Her work has evolved to consist primarily of acrylic paint, graphite and oil stick on panel, creating a framework and some restrictions that direct her dialogue with the painting surface.

In addition to making her own artwork, Amy is a community leader in the field of visual arts education and child development. After ten years of teaching visual arts primarily at the middle school level, Amy embarked on developing her own community based art studio that is designed to bring arts enrichment and exploratory practice to children ages toddler through early teenage years. Through her deep understanding of the positive impact that quality, diverse arts education has on the social-emotional and cognitive developmental of children, Amy built Mill Studio Arts, located in Biddeford, Maine to serve her heartfelt mission. Now, almost five years into the life of her community arts studio, MSA serves over 100 children weekly with 15 homeschool, after school and summer camp arts enrichment programs and hosts four student art exhibits throughout the school year. Mill Studio Arts brings the highest quality of visual arts education to all children in an authentic art studio environment.

It is the combination of her personal painting practice and her community involvement with Mill Studio Arts that completes the picture of Amy’s art practice. Her practice informs her purpose to educate children and her students energize her practice. The cycle reflective of the beautiful, ancient human desire to create in order to understand self and communicate with others.
